An Apple (For) A Day

brilliantology is thrilled with her new Macbook, and rightly so. To help her get started here are a few of my must have apps:

Quicksilver — Quite simply the only way to move swiftly around your Mac. Difficult to explain but spend some time getting used to it and you won’t be disappointed. As Merlin Mann said:

“Friends, go out there and spend a little time with Quicksilver. It can really change your life. It’ll make you Belgian waffles. It’ll save you from a snakebite. Whatever it is you need Quicksilver is there to help you.”

Fluid — Using Fluid, you can create Site-Specific Browsers to run each of your favorite WebApps as a separate Cocoa desktop application. I use Fluid for Tumblr, BBC iPlayer, Google Docs, and Instapaper. Its great!

Twitterrific — Far and away the best desktop Twitter client for OS X.

Things — Simple, elegant, intuitive task management.

Papers — If you need to search for, organise, and read academic journal articles this is the only way to do so.
